Vocalises
The Vocalise series (2003) is a set of pieces for (primarily) voice with effects, edited with Digital Orchestrator. Rather than allowing obsessive control, the software’s limited ability to clearly zoom in on waveforms suggested a collage method of composition by assembling cut-and-pasted blocks of sound. The isolated whistled pitches of Vocalises I, V (and the percussive thumping of an amplified violin tailpiece in Vocalise II) are laid over a continuous track of whistling with delay processing.
