Strawbale building houses bus fleet
The City of Santa Clarita Transit Maintenance Facility recently earned LEED Gold, but better yet, features strawbale walls as a notable component of a well-rounded, if increasingly standard, roster of passive and high-efficiency strategies for a public transportation system for a small, forward-thinking community.
Thick walls that moderate high and low temperature swings in a desert environment communicates volumes more to visitors about building to suit a locale than any bronze plaque ever will.
If sustainability can be judged from the street and readily apparent in the building form, or better yet, if the building blends into its environs, then haven’t designers done their job?
Good luck finding better photos of this thing, and let me know when you do.
