David Macaulay wins a Macarthur Fellowship

A so-called ‘genius grant’ was awarded today by the Macarthur Foundation to David Macaulay, the author and illustrator of books which include Motel of the Mysteries, Cathedral, Mosque, and The NEW Way Things Work.

Macaulay considers drawing a way of learning, and doesn’t fear that the computer will overtake this skill anytime soon.

When I was young, Macaulay’s detailed illustrations and visual means of explaining things large and small fascinated me, and probably contributed to my becoming an architect.

Didn’t we know this guy was a genius already?
