Louis Shell

Louis Shell Structures, Inc.
Louis Shell, SE has over ten years of practical and teaching experience in the fields of structural engineering and architecture. He has wide-ranging experience in the design and construction of buildings and other structures, as well as the evaluation and restoration of existing structures, utilizing a broad range of structural components, materials and systems. His projects range in scale from small award-winning residential additions to multi-million dollar educational and research facilities.
Past projects include the Brachiosaurs Armature - Chicago Field Museum, ABLA/Fosco Community Center - Nia Architects, Anderson Academy and Duke Ellington Elementary School - Schroeder, Murchie, Laya and Associates, and the Spring Prairie Residence - Garofalo Architects.
Louis is an active participant in architectural education, research and design. He has been a guest facilitator and critic at the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Louis’ academic and professional career has advanced his particular interest in the seamless and logical integration of both physical and organizational structure with design through the use of advanced computer modeling. Louis has further honed the skills of engineering and design so often divided between professions by collaborating on design competitions - a finalist in the World Trade Center Memorial Competition in New York and Ford Calumet Environmental Center Design Competition in Chicago.
Louis was also responsible for structural engineering of the Rooftop Victory Garden at True Nature Foods.

Mike Repkin
Biological, landscape consultant
Repkin Biosystems
Michael Repkin is an ecological designer specializing in biological resource recovery and sustainable food production. He led young students in projects that focus on human life support systems and technologies for five years in Chicago. While serving in the Army, his assignments included laboratory positions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Mr. Repkin’s firm, Repkin Biosystems, works with clients to protect current and future generations by implementing solutions to environmental problems. He co-founded Urban Habitat Chicago, an organization committed to promotion, research, and education for the building of ecologically sound structures in the Chicago area.
