Residence in Japan

View Slideshow >

Echo Studio is helping a home outside Tokyo incorporate passive and active energy-efficiency and water-saving strategies.

Japan’s methods of precut, site-erected post-and-beam construction lend themselves to a reduction in framing members and interesting challenge for making well-insulated and air-sealed walls and roofs.
Over 50 inches of rainfall a year will provide more-than-adequate water for irrigation, greywater reuse, and an innovate cooling system.

The basis for high-performance design for this residence is the U.S. Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR, which is poised to have significant impact overseas for energy savings in the face of continued economic challenges.

Stay tuned for more!
